We will almost always strongly recommend using Aquilim 315 water-based contact adhesive for bonding leather to leather. Except for a handful of scenarios, it will do the same job as a solvent-based contact adhesive but without having to deal with the dangerous solvents.
You may find it necessary to use a solvent-based adhesive for scenarios such as:
- Leather-to-leather bonding applications involving exposure to high levels of heat and/or moisture
- Leather to non-leather (e.g., Natural rubber, PVC, EVA, TR, PUR, etc.) bonding applications, particularly related to footwearÂ
In these cases, it’s okay to break out Renia’s Colle de Cologne (aka CDC).Â
CDC has a similar open time (3-5 min) and working time (5-30 min) as Aquilim, and the bond will continue to strengthen over the next day after initial crystallization (which happened when you applied pressure (pressed or whacked with a hammer) to form the permanent bond between the two adhered substrates). Â
Please don’t make the mistake of thinking about this as “the good stuff” relative to Aquilim. CDC is just formulated to bond leather to lots of materials that don’t happen to be leather.  So, “it’s not better, just, different” 😉
PLEASE NOTE:
Colle de Cologna does not contain Toluene or MEK. But, we still STRONGLY RECOMMEND only using it in a well-ventilated area while wearing a suitable respirator (available for about $25 on Amazon or most home improvement stores).
We will only ship this product via UPS Ground or FedEx Ground. Please contact us ASAP if your order contains other products that you may need faster. There may be an additional shipping fee in these cases. Â
